It's a preferred answer, as you may want to access root as role as frequently
as possible, but not one that fits every use case. Root as a role doesn't take
care of situations like single-user, does it?

Hi Deric,
If you boot into single-user mode, you will be prompted for the root
password or another privileged user so you need to boot from alternate
media like the installation CD.
