Mmmm Solaris/OpenSolaris have great features like ZFS, Dtrace, SMF, Containers so if you are developer or you need some storage server then these are superb for you (OK for storage server I will take DragonflyBSD in count too). For other cases and especially desktop I will use something

1.) yes i need to compile that repo is like contrib very few useful stuf for a desktop system 2.) well is not like it fails to compile for C++ coding issues, it compiles rigth in C but in C++ is not a C++ implementation issues but mostly a bad coding in sunstudio cuz all C++ compiler modules

well today im back to karmic amd64 cuz well osol for me at personal level is unusable, for server so far is pretty nice. i think ill try again when 2010 is stable but osol have very critical issues in my opinion that need to be fixed to be at least able to handle a non Sun guru users at desktop

You should have tried OpenSolaris one year ago. :o) The development pace is very fast, I think you are wise if you look at it again in a while. But you missed the best part for a developer: DTrace! :o) There are several Firefox developers that have switched to OpenSolaris just to get DTrace,
