Mmmm Solaris/OpenSolaris have great features like ZFS, Dtrace, SMF, Containers
so if you are developer or you need some storage server then these are superb
for you (OK for storage server I will take DragonflyBSD in count too). For
other cases and especially desktop I will use something

1) Yes, but you must hope that it will be ok, but I'm not so optimistic in this
case. You know Sun is company from USA and they must play well with advocacy. I
prefer this politic - http://www.openbsd.org/policy.html - no problem with
multimedia and so on and with strong crypto too as system is
well you seems to be a power bsd user XD and well im intriged about bsd too,
but well here is the truth. mmm i dont exactly want osol cuz is sun or cuz is
superb, actually i have worked with solaris 5-10 in sparc and well i never
actually loved it, actually was something like tech guy we need
Have you upgraded to latest OpenSolaris build, to get latest Firefox? Via
update manager?

1) You know those licensing reasons and sharks in suites ;-) But you don't need
compile http://solaris.homeunix.com/ of course not everything is so OK
2) There are worst reasons for this ;-) Like non-standard libraries in system
for C/C++ so even with Sun Studio you can't compile some apps. I
4) Sound system is completely reworked lately, from... build 121?. It is now
based on OSS, and therefore has some issues. But the bugs are squashed.

It has been very good to use as a first time non-developer and non-admin (or
basic ) use. Because I used mostly like that. It looked very stable. All the
people are doing great job. Thank you very much. In the past there is never a
day went without windows. Nowadays, I am using it for basic use

well like i said in my first post gcc was behaving weirdly in osol too, ofc not
as bad as sunstudio ofc but for a production system at least i need a
thrustworthy compiler like gcc in linux.and well default 3.4.3 is too old and
4.4 is buggy so ill wait at least 4.4 is stable in osol

This
1.) yes i need to compile that repo is like contrib very few useful stuf for a
desktop system
2.) well is not like it fails to compile for C++ coding issues, it compiles
rigth in C but in C++ is not a C++ implementation issues but mostly a bad
coding in sunstudio cuz all C++ compiler modules
well, erm, mmm, oss is to alsa like diskettes are for bluray, but again maybe
alsa is not an option cuz license :( again i hate lawyers

well today im back to karmic amd64 cuz well osol for me at personal level is
unusable, for server so far is pretty nice. i think ill try again when 2010 is
stable but osol have very critical issues in my opinion that need to be fixed
to be at least able to handle a non Sun guru users at desktop
You should have tried OpenSolaris one year ago. :o) The development pace is
very fast, I think you are wise if you look at it again in a while.
But you missed the best part for a developer: DTrace! :o) There are several
Firefox developers that have switched to OpenSolaris just to get DTrace,
true i miss in my post dtrace, but i work with qt and boost, so even if dtrace
is neat sunstudio was the showstopper here. beside dtrace is the reason mainly
i wanna osol in my office. :( but well ill wait a little more until at least
sun studio can handle C++ correctly
