I've run into an issue in a non-global zone where none of the scripts in
/etc/rc3.d are being run. Specifically, I've added legacy startup scripts to
run openssh (on a different port from the SunSSH version) and vsftpd. If I run
these script manually (/etc/rc3.d/S95vsftpd start) they work find.
Hi,
I beleive the ephemeral ID's is used for users not registered in

Hi All, hate to dig up an old thread but i wasn't able to find an answer
anywhere else.
I was able to get UID/GID mapping working correctly in opensolaris 2008.5, my
UID/GIDs are being pulled down from my AD correctly. (getent passwd
works, and returns the correct uid/gid)
So is there anywa

Glen, thanks for your prompt reply. I went to your link and there is a driver
there - vfe-1.1.0tar.gz
However, I am having other problems in getting the CD to boot into the desktop.
Sporadic errors and then sometimes it gets to the desktop but everything takes
forever to get done. I may have a
Hi Al,,
Currently I use Windows for web serving and e-mail serving. I have
used Linux in the past.
I would like to try open solaris for web serving and e-mail serving.
What is the best approach? I would like to do so without a GUI.
I am using M$ Virtual Server 2005 SP1 and currently have web
Solaris does support SATA optical drives, just not on nVidia controllers
running in native SATA mode.

jkeil,
Thank you VERY much for your help. I am eagerly awaiting the bug fix so that
Solaris can support SATA optical drives. Until then, I will tinker with
Solaris in VirtualBox.
Thanks again.

Lars,
Thanks for a quick reply.
It is not dual boot. I used to have fedora core before but decided to install
opensolaris.
I tried cold Boot up too. didn't work.
I will try to create a empty file as you said.
Do i need to do anything else to get the dynamic ip.
Thanks again..

The OpenSolaris installer runs in 32 bit mode. After the installation is

Umm,
to Activate DHCP you need to make an empty file named
/etc/dhcp.rge0
That activates the dhcp client soliciting for an IP Address.
Is this System dual-booted with windows ?
Some RealTek chipsets do not get properly reset by a Warm reboot.

Aubrey,
Your suggestion of disabling the DMA of the atapi device worked.
Jurgen: I was attempting to do a fresh install on a Dell Poweredge 2650.
So the only workaround I tried was disabling the Second processor through the

Andrew and Lars,
Thanks a lot.
i tried

Also tried manually configuring network from

I would like to build and install a non-debug version of the OpenSolaris

I extracted the non-debug closed bins and did the nightly build omitting the F
