Next question.
I have a bunch of SMB shares using ZFS.
Can I convert these to be iSCSI targets?
I see there is a zsf set shareiscsi command, can I use this?
The problem is that the SMB shares contain a lot of data, so I don't really
want to have to remove it all to get this working the way COMS
Silly me.
I assumed it was installed by default :)

I want to use COMSTAR and understood that it was included in 2009.06?
However I cannot even begin to try because it appears that it isn't installed?
Do you know why when I type:
# svcs stmf
that it gives the results I'm getting?
Do you know how I enable it?
Thanks

Boot into the GUI and do it there, it's much easier.
You need to copy /etc/nsswitch.dns -> /etc/nsswitch.conf and reboot.

Thanks guys!
I tried using the new Comstar method on a clean install of 2009.06 but rather
than getting the expected:

I get:

Can anyone point me at a tutorial for setting up iSCSI with a Mac using
GlobalSanInitiator and using zfs set share iscsi on the server?
I'd appreciate it.

That's where I'm at now - it doesn't work?
The CPAN stuff I'm installing as follows:
1) Everything via the wiki unti dbd::mysql
2) When it fails, I do a look DBD::mysql and make by hand (and install).
3) exit this and return to CPAN and do the same for GD.
4) Use your code, set symbolic links and
I'm using the code you sent me?
This already has it moved.
I set the links to point to your source, run buld-perl-scripts.pl and it
'appears' to be OK.
Here is the output:

Hmm, neither are of much help :(
I downloaded your build of Squeezecenter and replaced mine with it.
I configured everything asin the eiki instructions but when I run ./slimrun I
get the same old message?

Na, it's a dead loss for me :(
If I let CPAN try and install DBD::mysql, it goes off and tries to get version
4 but craps out at the end.
If I just exit and run 'slimrun', the slimserver goes off and tries to build
version 3.
It mentions needing development libraries for MySQL and that I don't
You should write an Opensolaris package (and get help from people here).
That would really be helpful.
Thanks m8 - I'll give this a whirl :)

OK, well it's been less than breezy for me m8 - 4 or 5 days and still nothing.
I have a question on the version or perl you are using and the version of MySQL.
Are you building from source or are you using the pkg install route.
If so what are all the modules?
If you use the CPAN version of forc
I got a lot further.
I removed MySQL installed via pkg and compiled it from source.
Now everything 'appears' to work until the last step.
It complains about DBD::mysql not loading, but if I run the command they
supply, you can clearly see it builds successfully:

I think I found the reason:
RE: Compiling problems of DBD-mysql-2.9003 under solaris 9?
That was the problem, there were objects in mysql and in perl that were not
compatible (some of perl was 32 bit only, mysql was 64bit only).
In the short term I just got the 32bit version of mysql and that wor

So my transition from Ubuntu to Open Solaris is almost 100% complete and I am
very happy I switched.
This what you want isn't it?
Long time Linux users switching over?
Anyway, I could cop out completely and just use Nexenta, but that strikes as
somewhat anathema and un-holy...

Try build 105 and see if it is fixed?

I updated to the 105 build and this has been fixed.
Now all I need to get working is SqueezCenter, but that's a bigger problem I
fear.

Well seeing as lot's of you have viewed this and none have commented, I'll tell
you that I scrapped the idea.
I'm now using a single 80GB drive for the root pool and a raidz array of three
complete 750GB disks.
This gives me a better chance of recovery in the case of a drive failure and a

OK, so Vista (fully patched) works without any problem.
I can see everything and I can add things even if there is nothing in the

This is a shame because I use Macs 99% of the time and only Windows when I have

Oh and I cannot add anything to the share until there is a file that resides on
the share.
In other words, I have to create a test file on the share server side and this
enables me to drag and drop files to the share on the Mac.
I'm going to check Vista and XP next...
Weird or what?

Thanks for the fast reply Gary!!
This partially works.
I can now drop files and create directories on the share but cannot see
anything.

I installed OpenSolaris on a slice as required and made it 25GB.

I then created slices on each drive that used the rest of the available space.

But you don't get bootable ZFS like you do with Opensolaris.
I was able to install everything and then remove all the GUI crap I didn't want.
Took about three different approaches, but these are the things I did:
Turn off GUI:
pfexec svcadm disable gdm
Remove GUI packages:
