So I'm in the process of building a ZFS based SAN. After toying with it at
home I've ordered up all the parts to begin my build. That's a completely
different story though.
I'm wondering what the possibilities of two-way replication are for a ZFS
storage pool.

I have a requirement to create and maintain a minimal server installation for
use as a Xen domain0 host. This would be a minimal and server-oriented thing
with no gui and designed to be as small and quick to install as possible. What

I have just installed OpenSolaris 2009.06 from the live CD.
The driver for my dial up modem is 'missing' (as for my audio device) and I
need to be able to use my modem to use the internet.
Are there any drivers for my modem (PCtel HSP56 MicroModem) if so, how would I

I'm only getting about 7.3 MB/sec to a USB drive on OpenSolaris
2008.11 that normally gives me over 30MB/sec on OSX. I've tried this
on 2 different OpenSolaris systems, one with an Intel DP35DP
motherboard and one with an Intel DX38BT. Is USB performance on
OpenSolaris known to be slow?

these are partitions and not entire disks (disks are, from what I have read,
apparently the preferred unit of storage for zfs).

How to install & run a VirtualBox into a non-global zone?
Are the steps following correct?
1)zonecfg to add a non-global zone?
2)zlogin the zone,and use pkgadd to install the VirtualBox?

I believe this is something that needs to be supported in the kernel. it would
be nice to have, currently Linux and (newer) BSD versions support it. On one
opensolaris box I'm running a 45W AMD processor, it would be great if it could
save even more power when idle.

because after the boot failed, I tried to boot from grub manually with "kernel"
instead of "kernel$" ... right now my only other boxes for reference are
Solaris 10 releases.

yes, IRDP is great, but not everyone is running it. The network admins where I

well I am able to get CD1 of snv_73 to install OK. When the system does its
initial reboot and gets to the GRUB screen, it continues, then after about 3
seconds, the screen goes blank (like a video mode reset) and then reboots.

I have seen intermittent connectivity between a Sparc box running Solaris 7 and
a newly-installed Solaris 10 x86 box running 8/07 (both on same LAN segment).
It mainly seems to be limited to ICMP packets, though. A ping will work for a
while, then stop. TCP packets seem to be unaffected. I i
ok another update..tried the snv_73 CD with the old CD-ROM drive (ca. 2001
Samsung) and no PATA drive on the chain. It's actually installing! insane.
Anyway, I changed two things in the equation simultaneously but now I have to

Well, I tried CD1 of Solaris Express snv_73. It boots to the GRUB menu fine, I

After successfully compiling B53 sources using the instructions found on
blastwave.org, and then performing a BFU I'm unable to boot.
Grub appears to have been overwritten by a version that does not recognise UFS
or Solaris partitions.
