Thanks to all for the ideas thus far but still no success. I forgot to mention
in the original post that the
video adapter is an EVGA AGP NVIDIA GeForce 6800GT / 256mb and while the hard
disk is SATA, the CD/DVD RW is via EIDE. It's made by NEC. The nomenclature
escapes me at the
I've been running with BIOS ver. 2.07 ( and checking for newer releases) for
quite some time. Is there any BIOS tweaks or twiddles I should know about?
(Other than the obvious-- disable P-n-P OS etc.)

It was suggested that I post this here, so I'm doing so in hope that someone
may be able to free me.
None of the ON releases have been bootable on my system after installation.
They've all either hung or
spontaneously rebooted at the GRUB screen. I'm currently running the 11/'06
