Confirming referenced patch fixes issue under newer AIX
configuration and for newer version of 'openssl'. Probably
everything in-between and AIX 6.1 w/ XLC9 as well.
Patch format is not understood by AIX 'patch',

and configuring for 64bit using ./Configure aix64-cc --prefix=/usr/local.

I still got the same segmentation fault as B via RT did. So I started
trying to find out why. I modified the make file to add the -g debug
option
the exact problem is, but I've done this a number
of times myself.

Hi,
We have a problem Segmentation fault(coredump) while configuring openssl in
64 bits mode for AIX 5.2,
when testing by 'make test' :
noirh-form root /U01/app/openssl-0.9.8a# ./Configure aix64-cc
--prefix=/U01/app --openssldir=/U01/app/openssl-0.9.8a
