You may have to configure Putty to use the key you created. I'm not a windows user, so I don't remember exactly the steps required, but I don't think it by default tries your keys. OpenSSH, for example, will look in .ssh/ for id_rsa/id_dsa/id_ecdsa and try all those behind the scenes (you can
