I recently upgraded to KDE 3.5.7 using smart which retrieves the packages from
PackMan's repository.
The upgrade was just fine and this new version seems to be performing slightly
better than 3.5.5.

Have you upgraded to the packages which came out yesterday? Try those
that the system will free up the swap... or am I wrong?

If the date is earlier than Sep 04, than you are not using the latest
