Folks,
I've noticed -- at least on our 9.2 instances, that it does not seem
possible to generate two trace files from the same session. Meaning, if I
start a trace in a session, then stop it, use tkprof to run some analysis,
and then erase that trace file, a second start_trace does /not/ gener

It is now officially 2004 here so:
Did you set it just to French, or did you specify a particular character set?
From the symptoms you're describing, it sounds like your data file has
problems. The French characters may be encoded using a different character
set than the Japanese characters. If you want to load the file, you'll

Dear All,
Happy New Year!
I have to load both French and Japanese characters from the same datafile into tables
using SQL*loader.
DB character set is UTF8 (version 8.1.7.3)
Client : Unix (Sun Solaris)
If I set NLS_LANG=AMERICAN_AMERICA.UTF8 then French characters are NOT getting
loaded proper
I realize that. Is the data in the table left in its "normal format"? Then
when it is used it is encrypted by one of the algorithms?

As the ultimate indicator of performance is response time, you might like to investigate YAPP

a database perspective.
If you use it, ask me for the patch.

No time to read it all, so I'll just work with what appears here.
Have considered that this table is simply used a lot and remains
in the cache because it belongs there due to frequent access?

Jared, I think your conclusions must have assumptions:
1) The SQL was written "correctly".
2) The data structures wrer designed and layed out properly.
Here, we can AssUMe neither. :)
Food for thought...

David - I haven't heard of this feature in Oracle. For one thing, there are
many ways to back up Oracle data. Many of these methods are simply direct
