Here is the problem: while arch process is writing out archive logs,
the netbackup script that backs up the arch directory will write a partially
written log to tape, we're trying to avoid that.

Just schedule another backup of the archive logs 1
hour (or 5 minutes) after the regular backup. NetBackup will take a second
(complete) backup of the archive file and when you want to restore , restore the
last copy of the files

backup that
1) Reads the current log
number.
2) Forces

We use NetBackup Exec on a Novell network and the backup manual say's
that it can backup open files and not hamper the operation of the
system. Horse pucky.
When a file is open by Oracle the tape backup backs up the file
without a lock but if Oracle needs to use the file for

a) You've coughed up a whole lot of cash for
NetBackup.
b) You're looking for a good enterprise wide solution
