Has anyone performed a remote install of Oracle 9i onto a Windows 2000
Server using PCAnywhere or know if it will work?
Trying to avoid having to go to the console which is about an hour away by
car at IBM's data centre.

The only gotcha would be if 'Anywhere isn't configured to restart when you
reboot. I'm
I've managed to do it over TightVNC on a Windows XP Pro machine.
Not sure if that helps a great deal, but Tighten is one other possibility
(http://www.tightvnc.com and it's Free! ;) ).

Transfer all 3 CDs onto the server's hard drive and use PC Anywhere to do
the install from the hard drive. That should work. It will eat up your
network bandwidth during the transfer but otherwise I should see no
problems. I use PC Anywhere to administer Oracle on Win2K all the time
not cooperate
with BEA Tuxedo at all.

I'm going to be installing Oracle 7.3.4 and 8.1.6 on the same Win2K server
shortly. The 7.3.4 is so that we have an accurate version of the old
database which is being migrated to 8.1.6 (which explains the 8.1.6).
I'll be putting them in different ORACLE_HOMEs and installing 7.3.4 before
8.1.6.
I'm sure someone has done this, BUT, 7.3.4 is NOT supported on Win2k.

Other than 7.3.4 isn't supported for Windows 2000. I have ran into issues
where imports and exports take FOREVER...and when I say forever, I do mean
it. I had one export that was approx 350meg, take about 13 hours.
I have also ran into DLL issues with C++ programs as well.

Hi, Experts:
After I tried with difference listener name in Win2K, it generated some services.
Something like:
OracleTNSListener80, OracleTNSListener80list804, OracleTNSListener80List805 and so on.
They were generated automatically each time I start the listener with a new
listener name.

A sneaky little trick on 8.0.6 and below is to use
oradim to remove the service.
ORADIMxx -DELETE -SRVC service_name
where ORADIMxx is oradim73 or oradim80
service_name is the name of the service to be
deleted (it is not case sensitive)
Be very careful as you can use this to delete

Hello All,
Being the netadmin here (not the DBA) I am put in the position of
trying to maintain all my various platforms. The management staff has
agreed that everyone should be using the same software (great for me) and
Win2k should be on all systems (servers and workstations). What

have loaded the NT version onto a number of NT servers, workstations, and Win frame
machines with no problems.
