What the article did not mention was that Dr Rivero's
exhibit at the Puerto Rico Orchid Society Show won the AOS
Show Trophy . Four plants in his Exhibit won AOS awards.
And one of his dendrobiums species won the Trophy for the
Show Grand Champion Plant.

Checklist of the Monocotyledons kept by Kew, then your
species is indeed Maxilaria splendens and not Maxillaria
buchtienii. ( It seems that in this case the determination
by Kew was made based on the Nomenclatural rule of
priority.)

In Section X of the Manual, Veitch discussed hybrids
including a lot of early attemps where the results yielded
pods but no plantlets.

Cattleya percilued ( = lueddemanniana x
percivaliana) appears registered in 1945 as "Originator
unknown". Worst, I have not been able to find the
registrant either. As hybrids go, it has been used only in
2 F1 hybrids and it has a second generation hybrid only.
So, I will grant it is not

nomenclatural authority, the Brassavola will not be judged by the name you have
listed. Simply stated that species is not listed under that name, ergo, for them
it doesnt exist.
Mrs MaryLou Porlick's valiant fight gainst cancer ended
early yesterday , July 27th, 2006. Her pasion for things Orchidaceous and
for dogs was refelected in her activities as a judge in both the AOS (where she
served as a member of the Florida Caribbean Judging Center) and in the AKC where
I am searching for a copy of the taxonomic key for
Stenorrhynchos presented by Christenson in his 2005 article on the
Stenorrhynchos speciousum complex. If there is a way of getting hold of the
article much better.

The Rolfe entity does not have priority. As a
matter of fact, if one accepts Kew as the arbiter for species nomenclature ( as
the AOS does), Rolfe's Cirrhopetalum miniatum cannot be transfered to
Bulbophyllum ( the Kew accepted generic concept ) since there is a 1904
publication for a Bulbo
The AOS has a procedure set up to nullify species awards
that have been published in the Awards Quarterly ( That is
made official). It is published in their Handbook on
Judging. One caveat, the process must be started by a
certified judge.
