Hello All,
Anyone here know what has happened to the specialty group, Encyclia Enthusiasts?
I emailed then recently and have received no response.
Have they disbanded or gone inactive?

I have what was purchased as Encyclia 'Green Hornet' which is listed as a
hybrid of Encyclia cochleata x Encyclia lancifolium. Both of these species have
been moved to Anacheilium and from what I can tell are now known as the same

Thank you to Dalton Holland Baptista for his reply on OGD, and thanks
also to several people who responded via private emails. The general
consensus seems to be that E. alboxanthina is, in fact, distinct from
E. pachyantha, and my plant falls within the range of variation for E.
alboxanthina.
Nick,
I think your plant is E alboxanthina indeed. BTW mine is about to bloom too,
maybe next month. E. alboxanthina (plant) is one of the largest if not "the"
largest Brazilian Encyclia. Pseudobulbos of mine are about 8" tall, and the
inflorescence is about 1 meter. On the other hand frowers are
Mindful of Peter O'Byrne's recent comments about the difficulty of
identifying orchids from photos, I won't ask for a positive identification
of this plant. Rather, I will ask if anyone can confirm whether or not its
label is correct (and any other speculation as to its identity would, of

were taken many years ago, I felt it was desirable to check with a specialist.

The derived name is female... so the specific epithet should be female.
Notice I said should, remember one of the quirks of nomenclature rules is
that even though concordance in gender is required, an author can mispell a
name and the name still be valid.

That implies there are two E.

Dear friend,
we are growing for the first time an Encyclia tripunctata. It lost all the
leaves recently. The pseudobulbs look fine. We know it is deciduous, but did
not know was SO deciduous. Is it normal?
Does anyone have photograph of encyclia tripunctata in the same situation?

I am seeking a seedling or division of Encyclia pyriformis. In exchange, I
can offer seedlings of Cattleya dolosa or epiphytic ant plants (Hydnophytum

Thanks.

I have been looking for a division of Encyclia howardii for more than 10
years. This is a Cuban Encyclia species and was brought to the United
States by the von Paulsens and the Osments who moved to South Florida
from Cuba after Castro took over. There may still be pieces in South

Encyclia tripunctata is one of my favourite orchids. It is decidous and
should lose its leaves in the winter with a cooler, drier rest. Aren't those
cute fat pseudobulbs irresistable?!? The flower is green, white and wine
coloured and has a HUGE coconutty/spicy fragrance for such a little one.
Dear Rina and Corraado,
Please go to my website, IOSPE
[http://www.orchidspecies.com/enctripunctata.htm] and find out about
Encyclia tripunctata. It is a miniature Western Mexican species and
needs cool to warm temperatures. It loses it leaves in the fall after
growth is matured.

I'm new to this impassioned list and have a question. Hopefully one of you
will have an answer.
I have two Encyclia citrinas in bloom, one with a yellow (lemon) lip which
becomes gold and ruffled at the apex. The other, awarded an AM several years
ago, has a white border on the ruffled lip
