I have been successful with the bath boards (Rubbermaid makes one). The
Sammons-Preston catalog usually has one or two to look at. The board stays in
place via pressure-plates on the inside walls of the tub.
Good luck!

Some ways to go for a narrower chair:

you could try a platform on the outside of the tubthat the bench legs
would rest on, therefore the bench would clear to the tub. just make sure
it's stable

I know I keep asking the same question, but: Where's the
drain? With "claw feet" I simply cannot imagine there not
being an open drain under that tub? - or, at least a drain
that could easily be opened?

I'm delighted! Now, what do you think of my idea of storing
all those links some where? (Your site, namely:-)
For one thing, might get OTNow a lot of hits - as I do
Would grab bars on the wall and a tub seat inside the tub work for him? The
claw foot tubs are always challenging!

Hi,
I have a pt who desires to take a shower in his old fashioned tub (you know
the ones that have legs). However, he has a gait abnormality and a history of
falls and has been taking sponge baths at sinkside. I asked him to measure the
height of his tub and it's 39" I have been looking at v
I meant to add that today the patient had noticeable swelling in her
entire right hemi-body, including her abdomen. She previously had a
blood clot and has a Greenfield filter installed in her right femoral
artery. She has always had right LE swelling, but today's swelling was
worse.
Hello Mary Alice:
The DME rep (who is RESNA certified) showed me literature on both rehab
and no-rehab lightweight and ultra lightweight chairs.
The problem with going to an ultra lightweight chair is the COST! The
patient must pay cash for whatever she gets.
To date, the client has NO sk
Ron,
Try contacting Wheels for the World which is Joni Erickson Tada's
organization that refurbishes donated chairs and usually takes them
overseas. It would be interesting to see if they would donate a chair
locally for someone that needs one. the chair you can get as a loaner

The patient and I have concluded that she will not be able to transfer
without the use of a board. Perhaps at some point in the distant future,
but for the moment, a transfer board is our only option.
I stopped by a local DME to discuss light-weight wheelchairs. They have

Self conscious??? You must be kiddin' me!! Your input is INVALUABLE.
I am confident that others are also learning from your input!

Joan, does your husband use his trapeze to move down the bed?
Ron
Yes both up and down the bed but I can't begin to describe what he does.
Just that having something to grab above him seems to help him move. Once
again he has sensation and movement - 'just' can't flex at the hip

Hi Ron, hi group!
I would definitely train level transfers first, but I guess
the problem is that the power chair is high, so the bed
would have to be so high that her feet wouldn't be properly
supported on the ground when bed side sitting?
I guess this is why I've yet to find any transfer vid
Hello Christi:
Thank you for your feedback.
I also think the OTnow.com site is good. But for the life of me, I don't
understand why it's membership isn't growing. There's only something
like 250 members and it my mine, there should be THOUSANDS of OT's on
this list.

Thanks for ALL the feedback.
I think I've been moving in the wrong direction. On my last visit with
the patient, we discussed raising the bed height so that it is even with
the wheelchair. This WILL make slide-board transfers much easier but I
think it's going to make it even more diffic
