I evaluated a patient on Saturday with multiple medical issues including MD. He has difficulty with dressing, bathing, toileting, etc because of bi-lateral shoulder weakness. I would address his shoulder strength but PT is already doing that. So, I will work on adaptive dressing strate

I have to say that was the most annoying thing about working with SLP's in a snf. I love working with patients who have cog goals. But all the things I learned in COTA school that I could do with patients were done by SLP's. I am still very confused about the role of SLP in a SNF. I thought their f

Just to let you know there is a big decline of PTs in the schools. There are a lot of schools who are barrier free and the population is different were working on transfers and traditional treatments will not be goals. The goals are school based. We must evaluate how their skills are affecting t

If you are working on cognition you can still do what you learned in school. You have to document it right. If the goal that the client and you created requires it, then that is what you do. --Original Message-- From: Diane Randall Sender: otlist-boun...@otnow.com To: OTlist@OTnow.com Rep

Are we being blindsided on the right while paying attention on the left? The cognitive disabilities model developed by Claudia K Allen (an OT) is used effectively by a few SLPs but their focus is on the speech , comprehension, communication goals. I suppose they use it in OT for patients with cog decline to evaluate following directions, perceptual skills and problem solving in a non-scientific way but I have seen SLP's give them to patients and walk away letting them do it for themselves and it left me confused as to what they were looking

Just wanted to say how much I liked the "elephant" analogy. I think is really is clever and indicative of the profession as whole. We do function in so many different realms that it is difficult to be united on our explanation to "lay persons" what it really is that we do. Great way to put it Mary.
