Does anyone know how to get SQLite to appear as a database provider source
when adding an EDMX to a project?
In VS2010 on my old machine I installed SQLite 1.0.66 and by some magic it
made SQLite appear as a provider to pick from when making a new DB
connection.

due to lack of Crystal Reports support in the new IDE.
Thankfully, they've finally released an update that supports 2012 in the
last couple of days. So now I no longer have a reason to use VS 2010.

would guess that Oleg Shilo has been tracking the changes in WiX since then
(WiX itself has certainly become more usable and full-featured since then).
