IMHO, PILRC should be able to take any BMP and convert it to any depth bitmap.
I found it frustrating to have to have multiple versions of my bitmaps around.

well.. handspring have their own version of "PilRC" - called PalmRC
they surely have done the relevant tweaking to implement 16 bit color.
i am sure they watch this list too, and, if they have done a
