You may want to generate a GlobalIDs array and the select using the global ids.

To close the loop on this, the option must be named PV_CONNECT_ID in
the server configuration XML. PV_CONNECT_ID is a keyword, which when
specified results in ParaView client sending the value as the
connection-id to the server.
