I just ran across what looks to be a bug in the GUI of the Contour filter.
When the contour filter is created for a data object, by default the isosurface
value is populated with the median value. The PV4.1.0 GUI has a "+" and "-"

Thanks for reporting the issue. I've pushed a fix
( http://www.paraview.org/Bug/view.php?id=14498#c32284 ) that should go
into master in the next gatekeeper review.
