I can't tell you exactly how to do this in vista but go to the playback properties in the volume control and make sure mic and wave volumes are checked. then close the volume control. you should here the synthesizer and your voice through the USB headset once you plug it in. in the record prop

That's the problem. You need a headset that isn't USB. USB headsets can only use microhone output. If you get a headset that pluggs right into the soundcard you should be able to record your voice and speech - of course, this might depend, if your soundcard doesn't support the microphone in pla
