s 5.1 or 4 speaker setting works no
matter what.

What variant of the Audigy do you have and what inputs does your 5.1 control
box use? One thing to do after you have everything installed is to uncheck
AC3 decoding under the Audigy and let the external decoder do the work. A
techie from Yamaha mentioned a while back that the Soundblaster does so
