By this, I am not asking for prices etc, but the easiest guitar to
handle for someone who has never held one before, but would like to

Nice post I couldn't agree more I have not played for over 10 years now! I
tried a while ago but sounded so rusty that i gave up the instrument was
crap as well and my fingers were about haning off after half an hour

I agree, been there done that! First start with fairly good acuestic
guitar, learn all you can, take lsessons and then if you still got the
go, then move up to electric. But rent first, try out several, test them
and find the one you like.
