I have no experience with Lightroom but I keep all of my photos on an external
drive. I've done this since I was scanning slides 10 years ago and knew I'd
fill up my 80Gb internal drive pretty quickly.
I almost lost all of my photos a few years ago when my external drive started
to misbehave,

We let geckos stay with us - they are said to eat cockroach eggs, which does
tend to keep the population down!
They're totally harmless, but do leave little faeces packets on the window
sills - but those are easy enough to clean up. You'll usually know they are
around from the 'chirrup' they call.

In preparing to move my photo database to external drives I discovered that I
have 18 Gb of Lightroom Catalog Backups going back to September of 2013. I’m

That might be nice, but it’s already cropped quite a bit. It was a horizontal
shot. I kind of like the bramble at the bottom as well, but cropping it out
would certainly make it cleaner.

With the 1440 image full screen on my 27" monitor It's most
comfortable for me from about 1m/3' away from the screen, once locked
on I can keep the image focused without any strain, key is to keep
your head in the same position, look around with your eyes only.

on the Mac and import them to the PC (and vice versa). I recently

That's an old technique, but an effective one.
I was able to get a bit of the 3D effect, but only partially and for a
fleeting moment. I think that's because I am viewing it at home on my
laptop. I will try again at the office on a larger monitor.
How far from the monitor do you think it works
That has the feel of Imperial Germany, which seems appropriate in
these days when Germany is the leading force in Europe again.
I like the way you have framed the Brandenburg Gate with those two
trees, and the way the leaves outline the end of the park and the
beginning of the concrete and marble.
The big D was at home this time, I'm afraid.
I needed to travel light, and had to bring a K-mount for other reasons too. I
purchased Stan's FA*-200mm macro, and this trip was handover time. :-)

Clever trick with the macro rail. I can see it after moving farther
away from my monitor, when I'm sitting close I can't cross my eyes
enough. I think it's different for everyone, experiment with the
viewing distance if you don't get it at first try.
