Pentax has constantly updating their cameras & lenses so I won't be
surprised if they did fix it (maybe using better grease?). The sample I just
returned, had smooth focus ring. I did not tried a heavy metal hood on it
though, just the FA43/1.9 hood.

Would Pentax (or any qualified technician) be able to upgrade the
old 77mm with the new gear? Do you have the name of someone at
Pentax who is knoeledgeable about this kind of things (part #...) ?

Yeah, the barrel that holds the fixed rear glass element, is plastic.

Hmmm... wasn't this "Limited" thing supposed to be all metal and glass ?
Or is it molded plastic afterall ?

Alan, face it you're on the "list".

At least it's still under warrantee. (But, it is funny in retrospect,
given Alan's history).

As long as you are out there buying Pentax lenses, none of us have
anything to fear.
We know you are going to get the defectives.

Strange, I still got the green leather bag when I bough mine a few month
ago.
At least my focus ring runs light and smooth, too.

I have finally bought another FA77/1.8 (silver). Pentax seems to finally
solve the focus ring issue as it is light and smooth now. However, to my
surprise, they replaced the nice green case with a rather cheap looking
black one. :-(
