I usually just take a needle-nose or dikes and snap 'em off.
Quick, clean, and no metal shavings/dust from cutting.

Forums is giving me problems signing in, but here's the answer.
The vivitar has a somewhat larger cowel on the aperture lever.
It worked fine on the original KM, KX, and K2 film cameras of the era.
It needed to be cut down to fit in the mirror box of the later ME, MX, etc.

I followed his advice and had that part machined so, yes, it works
perfectly on Pentax DSLRs. I have not bothered to blacken the machined
edge.

The quality is legendary for a Macro and the zoom makes it outstanding.
It was one of the first lenses I lusted after some 20 years ago.
