If it's like the Sigma 30/1.4 there's no clutch on the lens. When the camera is in auto-focus mode the motor stays engaged. Switching the camera to manual focus retracts the motor drive pin on the camera. The manual focus ring follows auto-focus like the manual focus ring on the Pentax FA-J 18

Larry, I have the 24mm f/1.8 (the 20mm, 24mm and 28mm all share the same body) and your description is correct for a non-faulty lens. It would be nice if setting the lens to manual focus disengaged the drive gear, but Sigma didn't think that was a good idea...probably just to annoy you and me :-)

You need to set both the camera and the lens to MF, as if you don't you will end damaging the in-camera AF motor. If you only use the lens clutch, it isn't like on Pentax FA* lenses, on which you only need to push backwards the focusing ring to disengage AF. Carlos Larry Colen escribió: Does

Larry, the behavior you listed is OK, as any lens without QuickShit (all third party lenses). My 28/1.8 focusses without problem in MF however although the weight of the glass means you really have to turn it, not push it gently. That being said it does turn without problem, rattling or whatever.
