Christine: now that you've rescued your images, you should format the
card (or cards) involved with this problem in your K-5. I would not
trust the filesystem on them at this point and formatting is the best
way to ensure it's fixed.

Well, I have a Lexar card reader, which attaches to the computer via USB. For
the last several years, I have been using this kit to import from card into
Lightroom. It's been easy-peasy, except for last night . I'm going to pitch
those cards--they were el-cheapos
Meant to say throw the uv filters in the trash and don't replace them. They are
only a minus.

All images have been transferred and imported into Lightroom with no problems.
Big thanks everyone.
Stan: I have similar suspicions, so I'll check it out. First priority was to
try and get the photos off the card and into Lightroom, but now I can do a
little testing later.
