Hi Steve,
O.D. is 2.875, and height is 2.125, as it sits on the table.
That's the Tak version, with 58mm filter thread...
This hood also fits the 200mm 4.0.

Is there a formula for calculating the maximum depth of the hood, given the

Check out the Contax Hack page ... don't have the URL handy, but a
Google search should turn it up. They have some lens hood information
there and, iirc, a way of determining optimum hood diameter/depth.

Len, I do have it, but not at hand... It's for round or rectangular
hood. It takes into account the diameter of the filter ring, the
distance between the glass and the end of the hood, the diameter of
the hood (or both diameters for rectangular hoods), and the focal
lenght of the lens. I

Hi Paul ...
I have the little brother to the HN-13, the HN-12. Yes, it's designed
to use a Nikon polarizer, as it's a two-piece hood. However, I've used

Nikon polarizer.
Unfortunately, I don't know the thread size on the

Hi,
the Contax hood is very good and very well made. On its own it is 63mm
deep, but you will also need a 67/86 step-up ring, which adds another
10mm or so to the depth. It's specifically designed for the CZ 300mm
lens, and this is precisely what I use it for. The Contax hoods all
have an 86mm

Well, the Contax No. 5 67mm hood that I ordered from Cole's Camera had been sold. Just
as well; 86mm width is awfully imposing and inconvenient.

The MH-RA 67 is a scosh less than 2.5 inches deep. The Nikon HN-23 is

This might be the perfect hood for your needs:

I saw that, but it doesn't seem optimized for a long telephoto. Wouldn't it
be too short to offer real glare protection on a 300?
