As an afterthought, the Nikon HN-5, which is a screw-on hood, is also an
ideal hood for the Pentax 50mm/1.2 and K50/1.4 lenses, if one wants a
hood shorter than the HN-7.

Hi, Bob.
1. Well, it doesn't have to be Folgers, of course. (All of the
usual brands sell coffee in that size.) However, the colors and
markings on the lids do vary by brand, and some are tackie

I have a chart that I compiled, although it's in WordPerfect 6.1. I may
redo it in HTML, now that I know how to write some simple code. Can you
use Word Perfect? Do you have questions about specific lenses/hoods?

Is there any way of finding out the thread sizes (for screw in) or inside
diameters (for slip on) of these Nikon hoods? They look really nice but I
cant find any reference on them (looking at B&H etc.) that tells me anything
other than the Nikon lenses that they are designed to fit.

Hi Steve,
Thanks for that tip. Not having had a K50/1.2, or the K50/1.4, I didn't
know that. I just tried it, and, although it fits over the lens, it's
not a snug fit, like the Takumar hoods fit over their respective lenses,
but it does help a bit.

The HN-7 also fits right over the lens when not in use (50/1.2 and 50/1.4).
Why are the hoods designed for most lenses (notice "most") such a joke?
Nikon also makes a HK-4 which is perfect for the VS1 35-85/2.8. The
Nikon hoods are very, very nice.

Steve,
Old advice from the Nikon School about lens caps to fit over hoods...
"Go to the supermarket and look for a top from a product. When you find one
that fits, buy the product!"

Hi Len,
I know it was made for an 85mm, but it is perfect for a 50mm, even
with a filter on at f16 it will not interfere. It`s perfect (except it says
Nikon) I say. I scored two of them from Pacific Rim for $20 each,
brand new in their cute little boxes, list price is around $70 each.
Now if I

Bill,
I know you will like the handling of it. You gotta try a K50/1.2
one of these days too. BTW, a nice hood for them is the
Nikon HN-7, just perfect they are (thanks for the tip Shel).

That's a great buy, Bill. I think the 50/1.4 K is one of the best pentax
lenses ever made. And if you got one that's new in the box for less than
$100, you stole it. You devil, you :-)

SMC 50mm f/1.4. It is a K lens, which is the first generation of
bayonet mount.

I won the above lens in an Ebay Auction yesterday. I based the
decision to bid completely on the reputation of the K lenses as
being very good, and my hands on experience with one K lens,
that being the 105mm.
The description of the lens is new in box, possibly never
mounted on a camera.
