A search for Killdeer in Google Images also turned up many images
showing the red circle around the eye.
They must be heavy drinkers.

I also found this:
One last shot from Monday. I wanted to identify this bird before I
posted this but I can't. The closest I could come is a Semipalmated
Plover. But this bird has very noticeable red ring around it's eye.
Otherwise it's a good match. Anyone have any ideas?

I'm not sure you're right. It's similar in markings but there are
differences that would probably be sugnificiant to another bird.

My dandy field guide appears to verify all marking but for the distinct red
ring around the eye.(?)
