That's right. The K-7, K-5 and K-3 all share the same model grip.
However, it would be nice if there were room for two spare SD cards in
the grip since the K-3 has two card slots. I tend to set my K-3 to
write to both cards (to have a backup) instead of filling the cards in
sequence.

You can make a wired remote very easily by taking a 1/8" headphone
jack and running the leads into a push button switch. You can also
make a shorted jack and by inserting it into the remote port it will
just fire continuously. This is actually a pretty decent idea for time
lapses as it will give yo

I have the Petax WR remote control and a couple no-brand generic IR

I bought mine in 2007 for my K100D Super. Has worked with the K20D and

needed to change the battery yet; don't use it all that much.

None at all. I've used it up to about 12 feet from the camera.
I attached a piece of colored tape to mine so I can locate it if I drop it.

I agree with Bruce! I'll add a couple of observations, though:
1. A fresh battery works wonders. You'll need a teensy Philips
screwdriver to get the thing apart, but then it's easy.
2. I suspect that other sources of infrared light might interfere; it
seems to be becoming more reliable with compa

I don't use a Pentax remote. I've got a third party remote, (Vello
brand), that seems to work quite well. I bought it for three reasons,
1.) the battery is user replaceable, 2.) It was quite a bit less
expensive, 3.) I needed to spend a bit more money to get free shipping

How long has it been since you've put in a fresh battery? That would

Mine has always worked perfectly when I don't need it to - basically when
testing it to make sure it works. Then when actually using it, seems to be a
bit flakey. I'm guessing that distance from camera impacts it quite a bit and
perhaps aiming directly at the sensor.

Distance from the sensor on the camera seems to make quite a difference.
Careful aim helps.

Scott,
I think you're right, but sometimes, after I compose the shot, I don't want the
silly camera brain to re-focus. The results get interesting if that happens.

Setting custom function 14 to 2 on the *ist will enable auto focusing
while using the remote. I'm assuming there is something similar with
the digital bodies.

I'm not Tom, but I use this remote to trip the *istDs shutter (either instantly
or with a 3 second count) after setting the focus. Useful for group shots or
anytime you need to set off the camera but don't wanna be caught behind the
camera.
Will work on other cameras besides the Ds, like my P&S W
Yep they, AFAIK, simply trip the shutter. I've used it for self/group
shots. They're gone though.

I came across a clearance table at a local furniture/electronics store.
They had a number of Remote Control F's, for the Pentax *ist D (and others).
These are the tiny, infrared, smaller than a USB flash drive, remotes.
Each new in box.
