You pretty much build a new car for every race.

The E1's are great bodies, but the Oly kit lenses aren't any better
than anyone else's. The advantage of Pentax bodies (we use them here
at W&L) is the low cost and quality of the used prime lenses,
especially the 50's. Of course, our film course uses only Pentax.

His problems are kind of a shame, because I think that a big part of the
reason that the K1000 was such an iconic student camera was its
robustness.
Yeah, we had a stable of K1000s and some Ricoh K mount equivalent (no idea
what model now) in our school; While there always seemed to be a few

The kit lenses /are/ a bit flimsy, on the other hand they're more robust
than the kit lenses from Canon and Nikon, though that's not saying much,
and from all accounts much better optically to boot. I wouldn't give
them to kids who have no particular attachment to them as they will do

Strange. I've dropped K-x once and completely destroyed my beloved
A50/1.7 lens, and my cat has knocked it off the top of a dresser about 4
feet high once, directly onto the mounted M 50/2 and the camera has come
out better than the lenses both times.
I guess I can feel a little lucky now that
I had a chance to visit with my friend Tom this weekend. I mentioned him
recently, he is using several K-xs in the high school photo classes that he
teaches.
He mentioned that the reliability of the kit lenses is horrible. They break
very easily. I didn't find the exact failure mode, other than
