How about the performance of M 100/2.8?
I have one, and do like it.
In my searches for data on the lens, I have compiled the following:
• It's identical to the Pentax-A version of the same specs
• It's critical aperture is f/16, giving ~
57 l/mm in the center, 51
The old Vivitar 70-210/2.8-4 Series 1 zooms are well worth considering
in this category.

There's not much choice in the 70mm~90mm range except for the various 85mm
lenses, both in screw mount and in K mount. They all tend to be a bit
spendy, more or less. If you can live with it, a Super Takumar 105/2.8 may
be just the thing. Comes in a K-mount as well. There's also the M 100/2.8.

The A*85mm f/1.4 is what you need.
Indeed.

Agreed. I'd love it!
Depends how you define 'reasonably priced'. I paid about 900 USD for
mine, and for what it is, that's very reasonable. Beaters at $400,
mint
at $1400. There isn't a better lens for the money
I don't know about reasonable but the SMCP M 85 f2 works out to be the
same angle of view as a 127mm on 35mm. You might want to look for a
Jupiter 9 85mm, I believe they are still manufactured and are sold in
M42 mount and even maybe K mount version. They're supposed to be fairly
good as far
I read somewhere recently that Pentax owns the Jupiter name ;-))
The lenses aren't too bad at least based on my limited experience with
an 85mm version.

Hello Charles,
You might try looking at macro lenses. The Pentax 100/3.5 is quite
inexpensive and you could also look for any of the 90-100/2.8 macros
from any of the manufacturers used. These lenses are quite sharp to
boot. KEH has a few Tamron/Sigmas in AF for around $300 and some
manual

I believe that they are only in screwmount trim. Zenitar DID produce a
K-mount 85/1.4 lens, but it is very uncommon. (Scroll down to the bottom

How about the Vivtar Series 1 90/2.5? If it's like my 105/2.5
(which I dearly love), it's a KA.
A great lens, but I think it is an only pre-A lens. (I've never seen a
Ka-mount version of this jewel.)
