The ME Super actually has a pneumatic cylinder and piston
to return the mirror gently. It also has a spring loaded
stop to catch the mirror on it's return.
VERY advanced features for a camera in its price class.
These two things are the reason for the difference in sound
between the MES and the ME.
film goes away for good.

I still have, and use, 3 of them. Probably keep using them
till film goes away for good.

My Super Program makes a very distinctive "kerchunk!" sound when the
shutter fires. This contrasts to the muted click noise that the ME
super makes. A stealth camera the Super Program is not...

Was the P67 marketed as medical instrument?

You're right. The longest lens that's practical on a Leica rangefinder
is a 135. You can use longer lenses with a Visoflex housing, which
mimics an SLR, but it's an unwieldy beast of a thing. The Leica is
happiest with wide to normal lenses, 35x and 50s. I have a Summicron
Collapsible f2. It's
And if you need *really* quiet SLR, use a blimp. Photographers for
movies use them all the time. You can shoot a Nikon F4 at full
speed motor drive and nobody would hear it. Although probably shooting
with a 40x40cm big black box with lens port on one end and viewfinder
hole on the other hand does

Not that exactly, in my opinion.
It's "noticeably" quieter than the MX or ME Super. That said, I
had both MX and MES and I liked the sound of MX more. YMMV, as both
have a different "feel" to the shutter sound

Unfortunately, you still have to deal with the wonderful mechanical
noises when winding on the film. Both of my Yashica Mats are very
noisy in that aspect.

When I use my Yashica Mat 124G once in a while I always think there is
something wrong with the shutter not realizing it

If you want quiet on the cheap the ME Super is one of the
quietest Manual Focus, Manual Wind bodies Pentax ever made.
It has pneumatic mirror damping and a very solid body to
further dampen sound.
