FWIW, film has all but died in SA. I haven't seen anyone using a film camera for yonks. There are only a handful of processing labs still in business. Various film bodies, including ZX/MX models, are available "as new" for as little as R100 (USD 9). The lenses are typically sold separately now.

Basically, the laws of supply & demand did them in. They couldn't make it work well enough at a low enough cost to sell it and make a profit. Regular DSLRs, compact digital point & shoots & camera phones got too good & too affordable too quickly for them to compete in the marketplace. On 2/8/201
