Maybe consider giving Picasa a try.
It's simple to use & free.

Wow, never heard about that.
(Or maybe when the cameras were in production, I wasn't much interested in the
subject).
Thanks Jan.

Yes, they can, but it is undocumented.
You need to go into the service menu when switching it on,
using some key combination, similar to the K10D one :-)
You can

Hi All,
I tried a program to convert PEF's to jpegs (I wanted something small
that would just do a quick batch convert for when I am away).

Hi All,
I tried a program to convert PEF's to jpegs (I wanted something small
that would just do a quick batch convert for when I am away).
I have a *STDs. The program did not see the files. so I uninstalled it
and filled in the feedback. This is the reply I got from them. I am
confused, I was
12bits per pixels give you a bit depth of 36bits (12 x 3 colors), but since
modern computers are module-8 (bits/byte) they pad it up to 48bits (16bpp).

If I remember correctly from the StarkistD's specs the raw file format can
be saved in the 12 bit mode. I'm familiar with 8 and 16, but not 12. I
know 8 gives you 24ppg and 16 gives you 48ppg with some functions in
photoshop disabled. Anyone that can enlighten me as to what you wind u

By my reading of it, the TIFF spec doesn't allow two 12-bit quantities
to be packed into three bytes. So it

Hello,
is it possible that Pentax uses 16 bit because of the
new multi exposure feature?
To sum up the 12 bit data without loosing Information,
you need more then 12 bits.
If yes, it could be possible to reduce noise
with multi exposures on static subjects,
this is the same process which is used w

But of course - yet another wonderful photo of the inside of a camera store.

Had a play with a *istD in a local camera store today. I'd have to say I
was impressed.
I took along my CF card to grab some shots, and took a few RAW files to have
a peek at. For anyone who is interested in technical details, these are in
fact TIFF files with a .PEF extension.
