Yeah - I've got a print made from a B&W neg that was shot through #29 Red
filter, which rendered the face a bone white color blown up to 16x20. Very
scary ... I think I'm going to reshoot this with a very slow film - APX 25
or Efke 25, through the same filter, using a few of my sharpest "portrait"

Hi Shel,
that's right what I was thinking, if fits too perfectly in the
background, doesn't show up clearly.
The detail looks much more evident, and separates much clearer from the
background ;-)
On my freshly calibrated monitor no highlight looks blown out.

There are no leaves in the photo referenced below. If you're referring to
the smaller shot which shows the entire sculpture, that was just a Q&D snap
to show the piece in its surroundings. I was there yesterday specifically
to photograph the "face" abd to compare the 77mm and K85/1.8 lenses. But
Shel,
I was thinking about the glare off the leaves and the
metal, which may be reducing the image's contrast.

Hello Shel,
The highlights look ok on my monitor. That is truly a unique mailbox.
One that I'd be apt to visit more than once. Seems like there must be
some perfect lighting to really make it jump out from it's
surroundings.

Oh No! How could ~that~ have happened ... thanks Mike I think I've

Rick ...
I've worked with this mailbox before. A few years ago I shot it using B&W
film and a deep red filter. That gave me nice, white "bones" This time,
using the digi, I had to find another way to achieve a similar effect.
A polarizer wouldn't do anything along the lines I wanted, althoug

Hi John ... yes, the color change was deliberate. I'll post the details in
response to another message in this thread. Thanks!

Creepy, Shel!
How would this shot work with a polarizer and a B&W
conversion?

I like the detail shot. Nice pic. Highlights are excellent. They read
as just a somewhat brighter shade of gray.

Shel - the highlights are far from fried on my monitor - what I do find
interesting is that the skull has changed colour! Was this deliberate?

In neither one do the highlights look blown to me.
Interesting, to say the least :-)
