I don't think the MZ-S was intended as a successor to the MZ-3/5n. The new *ist replaces a good chunk of the MZ/ZX bottom end line-up, and has more features than the MZ-3/5n (except for the k-mount lens issue). If you look at the detailed manual for the *ist (on the Pentax USA webpage), it has
