As part of r22629, I committed a refactored auto::backtrace and
associated tests to trunk tonight. I went for a direct commit because
the style of the refactorings and the tests was very similar to that of
the patches to auto::msvc committed at the same time. All tests had
been passing for

committed to trunk Oct 21 2007 in r22362. Tests do not yet provide high
coverage due to obstacles in testing runstep(). You are encouraged to
poke around and add tests.
