today I want to point out, that recording with 'Software Playthrough' option is
still not workable. Recording audio does not hang anymore and listening to what
you record
works.

With the soundcard replaced against a model which also uses snd-ca0106 now and

In the meantime I managed to build newer alsa modules on my system:

Compiled on Dec 28 2011 for kernel 2.6.32-5-amd64 (SMP).

'Software Playthrough' does not work with a two-soundcard setup. Recording
hangs after a
few minutes. Attached to this is information about the hardware in use.

Audacity is not configurable under /Edit/Preferences/Devices the only option
that works
for recording audio is 'Default'. A setup with two soundcards is not possible.
When I
record audio in

vlc-plugin-pulse and
pulseaudio with 24 bit resulution, I tried a few things to resolve this
