Hi Alan: I just checked in fixes to x21.pl and a new x27.pl.
As to your question below, I'm working on a 32 bit system, so this could
be a 32/64 bit bug.

I was able to get

working. I have put my recipe for doing this into
examples/perl/README.perldemos (revision 9039), and I have also
completed my build system changes so that HAVE_PDL_GRAPHICS_PLPLOT_40 is
