I got my ubuntu dapper to work seamlessly with HP Laserjet 2300dn here in the office. Just plug in the printer and it autodetects, just choose the appropriate brand and name of the printer in the CUPS configuration UI and its good to go.

But we're using Epson Stylus Color C45 and HP Laserjet 1100 here in
office. And they're working fine with Kubuntu Breezy without any
"fiddling, compiling, downloading, etc.". Our Epson printers, though,
are using the older driver, C44UX. But
what printers in stores here in the philippines just work out of the
