I'm using openSuSE, coz of yast and the best KDE4 experience, but package
management is very ackward and kinda hard to figure things. Packages are
bloated IMHO.
and then Ubuntu, best distro for desktop, but I just love KDE and KUbuntu is
not good as KDE of opensuse.

Hi friend,
I already tried:
1. Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Xubuntu (8.04 & 8.10)
2. SimplyMEPIS 8.0
3. PCLinuxOS 2007
4. Xandros
5. Linspire/FreeSpire
6. Mandriva
9. Puppy Linux
Ubuntu is the recommended Linux version or Distro. Kasi it has lots of
documentations online, books, support than I think with oth
nning.

I can't afford the downtime of reformatting my notebook...
Meanwhile my desktop has problems installing any modern Linux because
of the SATA-to-PATA bridge. So it's still running CentOS 4.3!
GIMP is pretty good for almost everything, but most of the actions and
tutorials online are for Photoshop.
I was going to say, "You might want to give F10 another chance" but
not really sure how NetworkManager is faring these days. My notebook's
on Windows, too, but I somehow got F10 to work on it.
One of my desktop PC's on F10, and my seven-year-old kid loves it. The
wife misses Photoshop, though, so
Sadly, that was not my experience. Make no mistake -- the ipw2100
driver loaded properly.
It's just that NetworkManager could not associate with the AP on many,
many cases, leaving me to type and re-type the WPA shared key many
many times.
One time I was in SG and I desperately needed the wireles

The call of Theo de Raadt, leader of the OpenBSD project, for access to
hardware documentation again ring true then. It's not Linux's fault that it
can't work well with the hardware by the likes of Intel or nvidia, it's the
process of interacting with those devices through what he call's BLOBS that

stable) Now switched to CentOS

Personally I've soured on the Linux desktop (after many years of using
a Linux desktop... starting with Slackware 3.0) because support for
Intel Wireless is so cranky / unreliable!
I was using FC8 some months back and although I followed all the

It's really getting more traction after every release that even Mr.
Cranky Geek himself John C. Dvorak recommends it.

Ubuntu - it keeps getting better and better each and every release.
Personally, my problem with it is that it releases too soon.. every six
months and I just can't fight the itch to install the new version on each
release.
So I now decided to go back to PCLinuxOS 2009.1
Its based on Mandriva, wi

Been using linux for servers for years, but only last year switched to linux
desktop. I tested both Ubuntu (being the most popular) and Fedora (being
the one nearest to Redhat - this was relevant to me due to my involvement in
Oracle projects).
Ubuntu - for most desktop applications, it was easy.

Can you please elaborate what you mean by trouble and support? If you mean
you need to know to whom can you turn to for support when you have troubles
with it, Ubuntu forums usually have the answers.
Mailing lists like PLUG can also be a venue where you can ask for help.

How do you define support on this context? Ubuntu is well supported
having a solid Debian base as well and the community is very strong
(check the ubuntu forums). Installation can be done in 3 ways:
but do you think its less trouble and support ?
