lsusb is a good start. dmesg to look for any errors when plugging the mp3
player in. as another poster said, maybe a reboot? even though it isn't
windows, a reboot can sometimes be an answer :-).

Earlier this morning I apparently lost all SCSI and pseudo-SCSI devices.
There are no longer any /dev/sd*. Yesterday and early this morning I was
able to mount my mp3 player (/dev/sda -> /mnt/meizu) without any problems.

It took me for every to get updating the list numbers correct, but I
finished it. It might have taken less time if I hadn't designed it
at first with the notion that the list gets dumped on a load. As
far as editors goes, it has a lot to be desired. Still, it should
be good enough for my course.
