You'd just need to make sure that you switch your BIOS to boot off of it.

boot into th live thingy
mount your drive # assume you mount it at /mnt for this idea
edit /mnt/etc/shadow to nullify your password (the : are delimiters)

I have bad last mile, and cannot make use of the copper for transit.
Two are the older Actiontec GT701, the newer one is an Actiontec

If you're needing to run wire for this, I would strongly suggest you forgo
running telephone line for data and run cat5 instead. I think you'll find
your success rate much higher.
