I cannot remember what Synology model you have:
a) If you have ARM based model - than the file system is most likely ext4
b) if you have one of the + models with intel CPU then it is likely btrfs

Pat and crew released Slackware-14.2 last week (1 July). For those of us
with supporting subscriptions, the disks are in production and will be
shipped toward the end of the month. This is the penultimate release that
will be available on CDs as well as on a DVD.

I'm running Mint 17.3 , 64 bit on a platter HDD and have had
no issues since installation on a brand new machine. I don't
know how old the T-410 series is but I'd back up and replace.
Actually I've found 17.3 to be amazingly stable, more stable
than my machine running PC-BSD 10.2.
