Hey - Got fed up with CenturyLink's crappy service and signed up for
Comcast/Xfinity 10Mbps service. I need to buy a modem and was looking
for suggestions. I would be maintaining a LAN behind a router of
some sort so a modem/router combo unit might be the better option,
ideally with WiFi.

I've been using an old 386 mini-desktop as router running SmallWall for
about 6 months; seems to work fine. SmallWall is a fork of the M0n0Wall
project, FreeBSD-based and runs off compact flash. The GUI interface does
takes some getting used to. It doesn't support xDSL authentication stuff

Is there anyway to mount this on Linux?
This ought to work; FYI linux systems are often compiled for read-only UFS

There is the old XV program. Its license isn't GPLish - it's basically
shareware, free for personal use - but it's lightweight and runs on lots
of systems. I *think* there's way of installing it via a package manager
referencing restricted sources, but it may be easier to download the

it seems the native Postfix doesn't have the Cyrus SASL support. I do

Hi,
I had pretty much the same experience this morning. It seems to be related
to a change in the way Network-Manager does its thing. After 6+ reboots
my issue resolved itself. I did find something on I think ubuntu forums

You might want to set the default power mode to max battery and/or tweak
the CPU utilization level in the BIOS to the lowest level - both will help
control cooling. I've got an old T23 and I almost never hear the fan spin
up with the forementioned settings.
