That "signal" could be another wifi client on a computer and not an Access
Point. It could be some other device in the same radio spectrum.

My choice for DHCP client is set to automatic, , and the radio buttons
don't give me any option other than dhclient, so maybe I need to apt-get
dhcpcd.
I'll run some tests over the next week, as I'll be meandering through
various airports and wireless networks.

Well, I have a flight in a week, but it's in a small plane; no wireless
available. :-)

Another topic in that blog that I found earlier. This person reset their
DHClient to DHCPCD and that worked. Not sure what you are using, but its a
thought.

I'll let you know this week. I've got another flight on Sunday, so we'll
see if I have to do a "try, try again" scenario.
I did look at dmesg when it wasn't connecting, but other than indicating
that it was waiting on dhcp, there wasn't anything helpful. I almost
wonder if it's a problem with d

I second that notion. I am working for a financial company and they use
spreadsheets for everything, including some database stuff. It irritates
the crap out of me actually. Thank you for noting that.

I looked with wicd for hidden networks, but it didn't find any.

Rich,
Just out of curiosity, what model wireless card do you have? I've seen
similar issues with the broadcom card in my wife's laptop, but not with my
intel one. It got to the point where I finally just bought an Intel card
for her laptop. Now I'm just waiting for the weekend so I can insta

The lobby does have a stronger signal than surgery room. Why you wouldn't
be able to connect would just be strange.
They can't tell the OS, I was being sarcastic...sorry.
Maybe there might be something wrong with your wifi-manager.

That or the hospital doesn't like Linux. Were you able to test it out in
other areas as well?

strong signal (3-4 of 4 lights on) yet wicd-client cannot find a wireless
