The osm was working until I inadvertently changed it to hdmi, then it
stopped. I plan on looking for a used monitor later this AM. This laptop
supports an external monitor. Need to get a cable.
Thanks,

Just curious. If there is no OSD, how do you know HDMI input is selected?
Also, do you have another computer or laptop or Raspberry Pi or Roku or
something you can hook up to the monitor to see if it is working? You
should get an OSD even with nothing connected to the monitor. So far,
everything yo
vga cable: no change. Monitor is under warranty. I have contacted asus

Not encouraging, Denis. If you turn off the monitor and connect a vga
cable to the system rather than the hdmi cable, and then turn on the monitor
it might pick up the difference. If not, a s
That may work, but the GD monitor is stuck in hdmi mode.

Denis,
A year or so ago I had the same problem. It turned out to be a failed DVI
port on the motherboard. I disconnected that cable, installed a VGA cable,
reset the monitor and it's been working

The manual for my monitor shows no way to perform a reset other than
through the on screen display (OSD). So the monitor is stuck in hdmi mode
and has no osd.
I can try the reboot into recovery. The last time I did that I got a
display. Maybe only some resolution modes are working in the monit
You are correct. The only connection to the monitor I am using is the dvi
port. That is all that I have ever used, and the cable has not been
moved. The problem of fat icons I assumed was due to a decreased
resolution (true) and I called it vga (wrong). But the immediate problem
is that I canno
If you chose HDMI input on your monitor, and you are connected to the VGA
port, you will not see anything. This has nothing to do with your computer.
Use the "Input" or "Source" button on your monitor to select the VGA input.
That should get you to seeing the computer. Once you get that, you can wo
The machine booted with a blank screen--no signal. Then I forced a restart
with the power button. That produced the "error attempt to read or write

googling. Then I rebooted into recovery. I selected mounting all file
